Structure and operation

The Australian Community Workers Association has a proud 41 year history of serving its members and establishing and formalising training for welfare and community works. 

We are the organisation recognised nationally to approve courses designed to meet the specific needs of the community services sector.

Overview

We are a national organisation with a National Executive Committee and a National Office

The National Executive Committee is elected by the total membership every three years. The National Executive convenes two sub-committees:

  • the Membership Assessment Committee oversees the policies and quality standards relating to assessment of membership and assessment of qualifications for the purposes of migration, and
  • the Education Committee oversees the policies and quality standards relating to the assessment of community work courses proposed by Registered Training Organisations and Universities.

We have four State Branches:

  • Western Australia
  • Victoria / Tasmania / South Australia
  • Queensland / Northern Territory
  • New South Wales / Australian Capital Territory
The National Executive welcomes enquiries and comments regarding the community services sector in Australia.

Our National Office is located on Level 5, 105 Queen Street, Melbourne.

The office handles all membership enquiries, assessment of applications, receipt of fees and distribution of membership documentation. It is operated by assessment, administration, marketing and management staff.

Lynda Ford, Chief Executive Officer

As a community worker for almost twenty five years, Lynda has held direct service roles in community development, youthwork, child protection, crime prevention, and with culturally diverse communities and senior management positions in the community sector, local government and state government.

Lynda has a Master of Arts in Criminology, Bachelor of Social Science (Human Services), Advanced Diploma in Business Management, Advanced Diploma in Business (Human Resources) and an Associate Diploma in Residential Care.

David Sharma, Assessment Coordinator

David has more than five years of experience working within both the VET and the Higher Education Sector. His areas of interest include student support, compliance and team building. He has worked with people from various cultural backgrounds and students with special needs. He wants to continue developing his management experience within the community sector.

David has a Masters in Information Systems and a Bachelor of Computer Engineering. He is currently pursuing Cert IV in Training and Assessment.
