The Australian Community Workers Association is the authorised relevant assessing authority for the assessment of overseas-qualified welfare workers applying to migrate to Australia.

Who is a Welfare Worker?

A welfare worker is a person who, through professional training and field education, has the requisite values, attitudes, knowledge and skills to work autonomously, or with a team, in a social welfare agency or program intended to promote, relieve or restore the social functioning of individuals, families, social groups or larger communities.

You can apply for an assessment if you:

  • have completed study in Australia and want to use your qualifications for the purposes of applying for permanent residency in Australia
  • have completed study outside Australia and want to use your qualifications for the purposes of applying for permanent residency in Australia

Recent Changes

We are now offering additional services in response to recent changes in Immigration Policy:

  • Work experience advice for DIAC points test.
  • Ability for previous clients to obtain a copy of original skills assessment application submitted to ACWA when requested by DIAC.
  • Ability for clients with expired Skills Assessment Certificates to obtain current certificates* in order to apply for Regional or Employer Sponsored Visas.
