Health care and social assistance is the largest employing industry in Australia with almost 1.4 million workers accounting for 12 per cent of the workforce, according to a recent jobs report. Two of the top five occupations in this industry are community work-related, with 124,300 aged and disabled carers and 83,300 nursing support and personal care workers.
The report also acknowledges that workers in this sector are generally highly skilled, with 45 per cent having a bachelor degree or higher qualification compared to national average of 29 per cent across all industries. This highlights the need for high quality and properly accredited training for those in the community work sector. ACWA accredits courses which meet the standards approved by an expert panel of educators, employers and practitioners.
One such ACWA accredited course is the Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Community Services) offered by Jansen Newman Institute (JNI).
