One thing you can never accuse the Australian Community Workers Association of is standing still. Over its forty four year history it has gone through many changes, including its name. But do not fear, we are not changing names again; however, I am delighted to inform you of a recent staff change. Sha Cordingley has recently been appointed as ACWA’s new CEO taking over the reins from Lynda Ford, our CEO since 2010. Lynda has moved on, as people tend to do, to other pastures and we wish her well in her new endeavor; we are sure many of you will keep in contact with her through LinkedIn.
With the election coming up ACWA joins with others in the not-for-profit sector to highlight that whilst the need for a strong economy to deliver decent jobs and wages, particularly for those providing human services, is acknowledged we also need a strong social safety net for those with whom we work. We also hope that the newly created ACNC survives beyond the election and realizes its full potential of supporting all not-for-profits, not just charities.
As always the new financial year brings its own set of joys and challenges but this year we are intending to bring more joy than challenges to our members and supporters - including a national conference in 2014. More on those things later however! Until then we hope your new financial year is happy and successful.
Kind regards to members and all practitioners in this very fine profession
